Damian Banwell

My life experience is very diverse (military, financial markets, winter mountain guiding, counselling). I’ve lived and worked in 6 countries. This is one of the unique strengths that I bring to counselling in Singapore. It gives me incredible perspective. Not much surprises me.

I dont live by strict rules – I am adaptable. I know that despite people being very different, we all want the same thing – and that is to live with ease as we enjoy a rich full and meaningful existence. We all face challenges and pain on our journeys upwards through life and occasionally that journey needs a guide and a friend.

I am that person for you. Sometimes our upward journey stops and we start losing grip; we feel like we are on a slippery slope that could give way at any time.

If you ask for help, I will grab your hand and keep you in place, then, with hard work as a team, you can resume your upward journey.

What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?

The movement towards acceptance of things we can't change, with a mindful engagement in our daily lives. All while using personal values as a compass to guide us.

What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?

I take regular specialist training courses in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to try therapy?

I am climbing my own life-mountain with challenges along the way. From where I stand on my own mountain, I can see you on your climb and the challenges you face. With my perspective, I can help you navigate.

What should someone know about working with you?

My specialty is using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have three different service using ACT. First, I work with unhappy people who want a rich and meaningful life. Second, using ACT, I work with financial market traders who want help with removing emotions from their trading. Finally, I work with operators in high-performance realms, also using ACT, to maintain their high standards of success.

How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?

One of my values is to "help people do things that they can't do by themselves". I have lived that value for the last 15 years, firstly as a guide in the winter mountaineering industry, and most recently as a counsellor in Singapore.
